The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any significant awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a demand to include fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: There should be a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
